I'm not Catholic, but I'd like to learn more. Actually, RCIA is designed primarily for you. Whether you have decided to join the Church, or if you're just curious about the history of the Catholic Church, Catholic spirituality, or have specific questions about the Church's teachings, RCIA is for you.
Is attending RCIA a commitment to become Catholic? No, it is not. Each year we have people attend class who are interested in learning about Catholicism but not yet ready to enter the Church officially. That's totally fine and normal. We aren't in the business of trying to pressure people into conversion. We understand that everyone is on a unique spiritual journey. Where that road begins and ends is between the sojourner and God.
For how long do the sessions last? Each RCIA session begins promptly at 7:00 pm and lasts about an hour and a half with a 10 minute break in the middle. We usually begin with any announcements (if needed), an opening prayer and a Gospel reading with a short group discussion that lasts for about 20 - 25 minutes. Next is the main class which normally involves a lecture on a specific topic which is followed by a small group discussion which lasts about 45 minutes and we end with a closing prayer. Of course, we spend a short time (15 minutes)
before the start of class socializing and enjoying a small snack so please plan on coming at 6:45pm.
Who should attend RCIA? Anyone who is interested in learning more about what it means to be Catholic! Whether you are a non-Catholic interested in learning more about the Church or someone who grew up as a Catholic but has maybe forgotten some of the foundational aspects of Catholic teaching and spirituality, this class is for you!
When and where does RCIA meet? RCIA meets on most Tuesday nights at 7pm in the Kay Center building located on the southeast corner of the St. Thomas More Parish campus. The 2019/2020 RCIA session will start on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 and will run through the end of April 2020.
