First Communion

First communion Preparation

We are excited to walk with you as you help your child prepare for their First Holy Communion. This usually occurs when students enter into 2nd grade, but please let us know if you have older children in need of this Sacrament. They should enroll for Religious Education classes, which are held on Sunday mornings from 9:45 - 10:45 AM, beginning in September and going through April. We will have a required parent meeting before First Communion.

See the RE Calendar on the Religious Education page for more details.

how parents can support their children

It is so important that as parents we understand that each of the Sacraments offers healing and special sacramental grace as well as a mission in Christ.

Holy Communion heals us of the wound of abandonment, affirms in us Christs abiding presence as our identity. We are called to incarnate Christs presence to others.

Our Faith and how we receive affects how Jesus can work in our lives, and as parents, we want our kids to believe in what is true, good and beautiful. You are the first and BEST teachers of your children - he has ENTRUSTED them to you, which means that God has given you the grace and tools you need to fulfill your vocation. We pray you will be open to his graces and ask for his help as you walk with them. We are here to support you in this mission.

Attend Mass together every week, help make it a priority so they come to know Jesus is truly present here and we need his help and love to live. Talk through what is happening and explain the parts of the Mass and give names to the vessels used. Focus your attention on Jesus Presence with us and this will help them understand he is truly present, body, blood, soul and divinity within the Eucharist.

We will also have a rehearsal before First Communion to practice receiving and answer any last questions they may have before the Sacrament.
