From the Director of Music Musical Changes As you know, Lent is fast approaching and I wanted to take a moment to tell you about some of the musical changes that will accompany this season. Starting on Ash Wednesday, we will begin using Missa Deus Genitor Alme as our principal setting of the Ordinary of the Mass (Kyrie, Sanctus, etc.). This particular Mass is one of the oldest known musical settings in our tradition. What great symbolism it is to sing the same music as so many before us while we take part in the oldest and most crucial rite in our church, the Eucharist. We will begin learning this music together before the weekend liturgies on the Third Sunday of Ordinary Time (January 27). Some of these Mass parts will be familiar, as we already them. Parish Choir
The Parish Choir sings for the 11:00 a.m. Mass on Sunday Mornings. In addition to Sunday mornings, the Parish Choir is called upon to sing Vespers, concerts, and certain feast days throughout the season. This group is open to anyone wishing to participate after a short meeting and audition with Director of Music Nolan Reilly. Rehearsals are on Wednesday evenings at 7:00. Warm up is at 10:15 on Sunday Mornings.
Schola Cantorum
The Schola Cantorum is a men's choir that provides Gregorian Chant for our Sunday 11:00am sung Mass. Like the Choir, the Schola is also called upon to sing Vespers, concerts, and certain feast days throughout the season. This group is open to anyone wishing to participate after a short meeting and audition with Director of Music Nolan Reilly. Rehearsals are on Thursday evenings at 7:00. Warm up is at 10:15 on Sunday Mornings.
